First-year review, 2026-2027: What Is to Be Done?
A first year of a master's in digital humanities, and what comes next.
First-year review
- Master’s in “Digital and Computational Humanities” (École des chartes, ENS, PSL): first year completed.
- Thesis on the “pasteurization” of France (1870-1914): a corpus of scientific journals, the Journal officiel and newspapers collected from Gallica, mass OCR, first-year mini-thesis submitted in June (project page).
- École des chartes hackathon: a VLM pipeline for Vaucluse postcards, whose map is now published by the Département (project page).
- distam+ summer school (INHA, June): co-facilitated the “Structured Data” and “Spatialization” workshops with Maxime Létoffé, for the CartaData junior enterprise.
- DECIDON internship (since May): named-entity recognition on Third Republic parliamentary debates (project page).
- Master’s website: with Mathias Garnier, we designed the “Alumni” page of hn.chartes.psl.eu.
- Bardella stylometry: a disappointment. Even with a method calibrated on confirmed ghostwriting cases, the results confirm nothing (project page).
- And this website, launched in February.
2026-2027: What is to be done?
- Second year of the master’s and writing the thesis.
- CartaData: I am taking over as president of the junior enterprise, with an entirely new board. A new website is under construction.
- DECIDON: Impresso@BnF datathon (28-30/10/2026), then deployment of the NER system, until December.
- Vaucluse: presentation at the ADEMEC day (02/12/2026).
- Histosef: a video on freedom in the works. It will get its own post here.
